There was a time when the most sublime experience I could fathom was that wonderful moment when you step out of an overly-air conditioned airport into the humid, smelly air and the dimly lit buzz of a third world city. Something about that mix of confusion and nerves and excitement, well, that's alive.

Time and a profusion of various other lucky circumstances including community, family, and home have conspired to turn me into a more grounded adult than I may have been back then, but my Nikon and I like to pretend I'm still a traveler in my own life. Now I find that the click of the shutter sends a little ripple of wakefulness up my spine, and my eyes search the details of my environment like never before. My photography practice encourages a mindfulness that the familiar patterns of the day-to-day can easily blur.

So I shoot.
